Organizing and Evaluating Ideas in Research-based Academic Writing
This workshop will help participants’ understanding and practice in two crucial areas of their research-based academic writing: the organization of the message and the writer’s evaluation of knowledge claims. Work on organization involves identifying and addressing two areas: the preview and review of ideas in the text, and issues with the flow of ideas that often arise in drafts. As time permits, the workshop also focuses on the writer’s options for appropriately evaluating their knowledge claims and outside research studies that are cited. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring a sample of their academic writing to the workshop.
